In OPs posts, he did not complain about the handling of his rig, in fact he mentioned how impressed he was going down the other side. What he said was scary was being down on power going up the hills.
There may be some marginal improvement going from the 5.7 to 6.2 Ford or 6.4 Hemi, but in OPs local it WILL be marginal. The problem is the elevation. Many highways in the rockies BEGIN around 5000ft or higher, and go up from there. Normally aspirated gas engines lose around 3% of power for every 1000ft, so just driving around Denver you are down 15%, and pulling over Wolf Creek, Eisenhower Tunnel, or Monarch, all over 11,000ft, N/A gas is down over 30%!!
The ONLY way to maintain decent power at elevation, the primary complaint of the OP, is with forced induction. There is only ONE 1/2 ton option with forced induction, the F150 ecoboost. All other options are diesel, which only come in 3/4 ton or higher packages. This is why all the diesel suggestions.
If OP really does not want a diesel, he will have to get an ecoboost, or live with the performance limitation of N/A gas at altitude, which WILL get to the top, just slower.
