If you are serious about shopping, go when the weather conditions are the worst you can get. If it's pouring rain, that is when to shop. Check with your hand all around every inch, in every cupboard, along every roof line and under every window and door and you will notice the wet spots. If you shop when all is dry, they will love you and tell you how wonderful it is indeed.
I have been into brand new units after a rain, and the carpet is soaked, the walls feel cold and damp, and you just know there is many things wrong.
My advice, don't go to the top, buy quality and used over new and inexpensive. Get someone to show you everything works. If it's sitting and they tell you it worked last time, tell them to hook it up and show you it works still.
I showed my previous camper with water in the tank, hot water in the hot water tank, the fridge had cold beer in it, ice cubes in the freezer, and I turned on the furnace for them and ran up and down the jacks. You should expect nothing less, and if it's as is, where is, RUN AWAY!
X2 to buying during a storm!!
Unlike a car, the best time to do the PDI is when it is cold and raining!!
We bought our unit from Camping World, but one 250 miles from home. Local dealer we were working with wanted us to sign the deal before seeing the rig first hand. Didn't do that, we put a $1,000 refundable deposit to hold to the weekend when we could go see it and then pick it up.
Nasty rainy blustery NW storm. Unit was nice and dry on the inside, did discover a couple of small issues winch allowed us to get the price reduces even more that we had negotiated before at the local dealer. The items were minor repairs edge of sheet vinyl lifting and some bad drawer hardware.
We were happy with the deal ended up paying about 20% less than the asking price.
Remember NEVER be afraid to walk away from a deal, DW favorite line (also salesman's) "Are you willing to loose the sale for $xxxxxx?" it is amazing how well that works.
