Wear old clothes when going to look. First thing I do is dive underneath the thing to check for cracks in the welds at spring hangers & condition of the springs looking for sagging or cracks.
The last trailer I looked at had been left all winter with water in the tank. It had turned into a giant ice cube breaking the mounts holding it up. It was resting on the axels. Bye bye!
The unit we eventually bought was an orphan. The manufacturer had gone out of business a couple years before & this was one of the last of the breed. A dealership owner had bought it at liquidation auction for his own use. His wife did not like it so it sat in a corner of one of his lots till we showed up with our truck loaded with all of our saved possessions. We had lost our previous 5er in a blowover.
This dealership owner was made to understand that he either offered his very best price right away or our truck, our insurance check & us would be 100s of miles away, never to return by tomorrow.
He got his best pencil sharpener out & the price tumbled. Money talks especially at a time when sales are slow.
