What hose is needed to convert to 100 lb Propane tank

We currently have two 30 lb tanks in our 5th wheel but this winter(5 month stay) we would like to switch to using a 100 lb tank and have a local service come to us for refilling. What is the simplest and most cost effective hose to make the connection from the 5th wheel to the 100 lb tank and where is the best place to purchase this hose? We would like to use the two 30lb tanks as backup in case the 100 lb tanks runs out so an easy switchover is desired..

  • MrVan, before you get the hose, which I can't help you with, Check with the local LP dealer and make sure they will come out to fill a 100lb bottle. The reason I'm suggesting this is that the camp host here was using 2 100lbs and no one would service them on site. So he had to take the bottles to them to be filled. He ended up renting a 250 gal. tank from another LP dealer and they would service it on site. They also brought the hose and connected it to the trailer.

I think why they can't service then on you site is because they have to weigh the bottles to fill them.
  • get 2 100 lb tanks and that just might last you 5 months.
change out both hoses to longer ones, keep your short hoses handy for to switch back when your done.

another option is go to a well stocked gas supplier (or welding supplier) they have all kinds of neat fittings (in some cases) you can have an adapter made to fit your existing tank hoses to extend them to go to the 100lb, and just take them off to switch back,,, put away for the next time you need them.
  • Rather than cut the line and "T", unscrew the short line going from small tank to regulator, screw new line into regulator. (Tape over small line to keep dirt and other stuff out) The length of hose you need will depend on your tank placement. By doing your hose this way, when you are ready to move, you simply unscrew line going to large cylinder and screw your short back into the regulator. Any well supplied hardware store should have all of the needed fittings to make it happen.

First of all the smaller tanks are 20 pounders and the taller ones are 30 pounders. I think that you will pay a lot more to have someone fill your tank on site. Why not just get an extra tank and refill one when making other shopping trips. We only refill a 30 pounders about once a month in Arizona.

Sorry for a typo. Yes, it is a 30 lb. (7.5 gallon) tank. Your situation is different than ours so your suggestion doesn't fit our needs and doesn't offer an acceptable answer to the question asked.
