What is the best tire rotation on 3 axle trailers?

For those who have covered high mileage with 3 axle trailers: what tire rotation pattern has given you the best tire wear results?

Thanks

  • About every two years, I move the rear tire to the middle, the middle to the front, and the front to the rear. Since on a triple axle the rear tire does most of the "chafing" on tight turns or backing into a spot, this helps even the wear out. Has worked for ten years for us. No, I didn't run the tires for ten years!
  • Hey happy turkey day. I move the rear to the front the front to the middle and replace the middle tires and put the new ones on the rear. I believe this is overkill but having a couple of blow outs on the rear axle I want the new ones on the rear.
  • I would prefer to have them remain in the same position to observe wear patterns for alignment or running gear issues.
  • The rears always wear a bit more on the outside edges than the fronts so if I were going to rotate them (and I probably wouldn't for reasons posted above) I would swap the rears with the middles and leave the fronts alone.
  • I've got a few triaxles-rotating forward and rolling down the road is the ticket!

Seriously-If I was gonna bother I'd move each wheel a postion forward with the front goin to the rear position-I see no purpose in this on the trailer-If something's wearing poorly go to a frame shop and have your axles aligned.

You might do better asking this question in the toy hauler area, as a lot more of them have the 3rd axle. Generally speaking, if your axles are all aligned correctly, there is no big need to rotate them. I would not move them side to size reversing the rotation myself, but that may just be a hang up that I have about radial tires. I just move them front to back on my vehicles.

  • Since they are not steering or drive axles, I can see no reason to rotate your trailer tires unless they are wearing unevenly. I've never rotated any tires on the 8 trailers I've had over the years. Just watch the wear patterns and have the wheels aligned at a heavy duty truck shop if needed...

  • I believe most people don't bother as they usually age long before they wear out. Jmo
