Neither would I. When the shackle broke and when the leaf spring broke, I strapped the axle up so the tires weren't touching and moved to where it was safe to work on it. A little common sense, and the ability to do mechanical work goes a long way. When I had a rear axle tire blow out on I5" I drove slowly on the shoulder until the off ramp where I could pull off and change it safely. Well worth the cost of a rim. I didn't see anyone posting that you should do major repairs on the side of a freeway.
