What Spare Parts do you carry?

Having had a lot of funny (they weren't at the time) things happen I just wondered what you all carry in the way of spare parts. I carry lots of spare fuses, toilet vaccuum breaker and valve, short sections of wire, crimp on butt connectors, screws, nuts, bolts, blinde string, and a few spare bulbs.

  • My latest and probably the one that would save me the most time and money If I were to break down on the road is a Kodiak complete rotor/hub assembly with studs and sealed bearing. Very easy to replace on the road.
  • I used to carry lots of stuff - now I carry credit card, cell phone, few fuses, and few basic tools (screw driver etc). I don't camp in the boonies anymore and if I need something I usually can drive and pick it up.
  • Not a lot of spare parts per se but I do carry tools, meter, fasteners etc.

Way too much but I have to room with truck bed and the front deck on my off-road POPUP. We camp off the power grid for the most part. We also never do anything to the truck systems as this is our way to get back out on.

It certainly feels good to have a PLAN B fix for that part that just failed when you are way back in the woods.

I guess I started all of this back in the JEEP days dragging my utility trailer all over the high country of AZ back then... Going in groups was great back then as someone had just what you needed when the emergency came to light.

Carry what you can and depend on the neighbor campers to help you out...

  • Yeah, it seems wherever we camp there's either a Welfare Mart, Camping World or auto parts store nearby.

Add plenty of beer to the list of must have's.
  • I have seen folks who carry enough spare parts and heavy duty tools to do a complete refit on an aircraft carrier.

Me, I keep it simple. I'm not camping on the moon anymore and can get almost anything I need while on the road.

I have found that I just never have the part that I actually need...but have lots of other stuff I thought I would need and never have used.

  • A spring and related shackle, bolts etc. A good friend was stuck for 2 days on his way South when a spring broke. No problem finding someone to install it, but they can't install what they don't have.

  • A credit card.

I suppose if you're staying off the grid, carrying a lot of stuff is handy, but mostly I'm not that far from a hardware store. And I hate clutter. OTOH I do carry a few tools: pliers, V/O meter, small tool set.
