I agree with you whole-heartly. We have had 29RES X-Lite for 3 seasons now and when compared to some other bigger/heavier units ours has just as many ammendienties (some even more) and as nice cabinets/doors/plumbing as some of the others. The biggest thing is it isn't as tall and has a lighter frame than those.
We have 3 slides, 2 are full 6' x 36" slideouts and the bedroom/bathroom slide is 5' x 18", porcelin stool, glass shower, queen size bed, slam lock latches, 15k AC unit, microwave, 3 burner stove/oven, 32" flat screen tv/dvd/stereo in living room and 18" tv in bedroom with the exact same antenna as the larger units. It is not as tall as the others but at 1190# pin weight empty, it fit our truck perfectly for weekend trips and once a year vacations. Would I want to live in it full time?...probably not but we can deal with that later after we retire...
