I have an extremely light aluminum ladder attached to my OEM FW ladder and that is about the maximum weight I would want back there.
We went with a Bodiak front receiver and a Reese 2-bike rack. The Bodiak mounts on your tow hooks. When traveling I just leave it on, when camped for extended periods of time I unbolt it, which takes about 2 minutes.
The Reese bike rack was under $75.00 at Walmart. I have mine adjusted so just 2 or 3 inches of handle bars stick up over the hood. They are very secure and do not bounce around.
I like this set up because while traveling if we need to take our bikes somewhere after we set up camp we can simply transfer the bike rack to the truck's rear receiver and away we go. We don't have to mess around with trying to secure them in the bed or the truck.
