Who tows with a '13 or newer Ram

Sorry if this belongs in the towing section, but I'm only interested in how the newer Ram tows Fifthwheels. I'm interested in feedback of likes and dislikes. You don't have to list how much you're towing so we can keep the weight police out of this.

  • We pull our new Montana with a 14 Ram dually Cummins/Aisin and it keeps me smiling the entire way. No real problems after the recalls/updates where done. The only complaint I would have is the 6 month oil change requirement because sometimes it does not have 1k miles put on it during that time. It is only used to pull the camper. With over 2k lbs left in capacity on the truck and 3k lbs left on the trailer axles when ready to camp the weight police can pound sand. If I had it to do over again I would do the same thing and to me that's a good test on how well a vehicle performs after you buy it.
  • I had to lift my trailer too but the truck pulls it great. Put it in tow/haul and set the exhaust to auto and going down the highway isn't any more stressful or difficult than driving the truck empty. If anything it rides a bit nicer.
  • On my 2017 3500 SRW SLT Bighorn Long bed, Auto so far seems to tow admirably. While I have not towed far yet so far it has been great. Truck is comfortable, has the power to go and to stop. Compared to my 01 Ram this thing is soooo quiet as well as advanced in many other ways. As they all are now very computer controlled and not much to do about that except drive an older truck but so far with just over 10k on the odo no issues whatsoever (which to be honest I would expect). The integrated brake controller for me anyway has been fine, the exhaust brake is great.
Our 5th is not that heavy GVW of 10k only problem I have had is it doesn't squat the truck enough for it to ride level like it did on my previous truck but the real issue is the clearance at the tailgate (due to the rake of the truck). On my old truck it was right on the fence of needing anything done but it did fine. This one I am having to raise the trailer a couple inches which is at the shop now for the surgery. IIRC the rear outside edge of my tailgate is 59.5 inches high which was only leaving me 4.5 inches of clearance in that spot.
  • We have a 2015 Ram dually. It is really nicely appointed inside and is a towing machine (our 5th wheel is heavy). We ordered ours from the factory. We have had one issue and that was one of the NOX sensors was defective but it seems a problem common to all of the big three truck makers. We ordered it with the puck system and Aisan transmission.
