wifi on the go

Good morning, We are planning on a long road trip next year from Iowa to Florida and then to the north-west part of the U.S. Has any one used any type of WIFI on the go that you can use for movie viewing? I have seen some of the hot spots that allow WIFI connections for internet access for lap tops and cell phones but not for movie viewing. At home we have a system that allows us to access Netflix and amazon prime for movies through our WIFI on our home computer. I was just wondering if there was any thing out there that I had not seen yet. Thank you, Denny and Ida

We carry with us the VERIZON mifi unit but it is only on a grndfathered 3GB dataplan. Just barely gets us through the month checking in with the kids, paying some bills, and a small amount of surfing the web...

No MOVIES or Internet TV for us... Wife watches portable DVD player some when we are on the road...

  • Longest story shortest- what is posted above is accurate. If you're going to watch TV over mobile wifi- be prepared to use a lot of data unless you're on an unlimited plan.

I strongly recommend reviewing this site and maybe even signing up for a membership:

  • I did not see the post by Second chance when I was posing. Thanks for that information.
  • The Millenicom website does not give much information on the service or the plans.

I'm sure there are others on here who will be more familiar with this service. Hope this helps.

Mellenicom no longer exists. There is a new startup with similar offerings (several posts about it on RV-Dreams.com and Escapees), but they stopped accepting new customers shortly after starting up due to the number of new accounts.

  • AT&T or Verizon hotspot with at least 30G of data. You have to pay to play. I watch Netflix all the time via the hotspot but you've got to kind of watch your data use. HD uses about 1G per hour on Netflix. You could cut the resolution via the settings to use less.
  • Movie viewing uses so much data it would cost you a fortune, no there is nothing out there.
