Winter Camping

The end of January I will be pulling my 5th wheel from NC to Utah. I am thinking of going on a southern route to avoid traveling on I70 through the passes of CO. I would like to camp at our night stops. I have never winter camped. How do I keep my water lines from freezing during the day while I am driving? Would I have to put anti freeze in every morning? When I get to Salt Lake the 5th wheel will be parked until the middle of March when I will start a 6 week camping trip in southern Utah and AZ. Any information on routes, campground availability and freezing problems will be helpful. When we get to Utah the trailer will be parked for 6 weeks before we start camping in southern Utah and AZ.
  • If I go south from WY I am winterized. Although I think our MH can handle weather what if I have a break down. Things can turn bad quickly. We keep our MH winterized until we reach Vegas. We flush with RV antifreez and use bottled water. Not a big deal. It is only a few days south.
  • Ouch, your not going to like my answer. No way I would attempt to use the water systems if traveling during freezing weather with trailer. To much risk of damage and too much hassle to un-winterized and then winterize everyday.
  • I travel in the Winter when heading South. We carry 5-10 gallons of water in the backseat of our truck to keep it from freezing. Nothing in the water system. Most RV parks have the water shut off in the cold climates so you have nothing to hook up to anyway.
