I also grew up where the dogs rode in the bed of the truck. The only time they came in the house was when the weather was too bad. Now my golden retriever sleeps in bed with my wife and I no matter what the weather and we bought a crew cab so he and the 2 legged kids would be comfortable. I have been advised (by a family member who used to ride with our dogs in the bed of the truck) my golden child needs to be strapped in when riding in the back seat of the TV. However, I ran upon an article today that claims the harnesses sold today are not tested and are considered generally ineffective. So, I guess it's a matter of what local law and what you are willing to live with. Personally, I like my place in the bed even if I have to share it with a spoiled golden retriever.
