Would you purchase a used hitch? Good or bad idea?

I was thinking of purchase a used B&W 3300 hitch from a local couple for $500.00. But, maybe I should purchase a new hitch for around $1,200.00 from a local dealer and have it set up for additional $75.00 to insure proper operation. What are recommendations and or additional help. This hitch is go to set in a new 2017 Ford dually.

Not trying to be cheep and make a big mistake.
  • Heck yeah!! Buy it!!

I just bought a new 3300 for my 2011 Ford dually and LOVE it!!
Never towed with so much confidence!!

And the only thing that could wear out is the jaws, but an easy replacement. But I doubt the jaws are even close to worn out.

I would NEVER buy a used Reese (or even a new one for that matter). The 3300 is head and shoulders better than the Reese.

The 3300 has only been available since around 2012-13, so cannot be very old.

    If it isn't a 2017 I don't think it will work in a '17 Ford.

Edit: maybe an older hitch will fit - I'm only guessing that the wider frame of the 2017 Ford will require a different hitch than the 2015-16 used.
  • 4x4ord...If you would order the complete OEM puck system from Ford Accessories, it would be different to fit the 17 frame. However, the under bed puck alignment will still be the same, on either bracket, which mounts to the frame.
