Previous vehicle 2011 F350 SRW 6.7 diesel crew cab 6 1/5' bed. Present vehicle 2017 F350 DRW 6.7 diesel crew cab 8' bed. Both towing Cardinal fiver weighing 12,400 empty. The 2011 SRW towed the fiver well. The 2017 tows the fiver great. There is a noticable difference in stability in strong winds and curvy roads with the DRW. I am not constantly steering the truck. Something that I never really noticed until I changed vehicles. If you have a SRW and never towed with a DRW then you will most likely be satisfied with what you have.
We made the switch from a 04 2500 Chevy to a 05 3500 DRW when we were pulling a Jayflight 285RLS, only a 9K trailer. It was well within the specs of the 2500. The DRW just feels better to me. We bought the DRW because we knew we wanted to get something the size of our Mountaineer. And in that era of truck the DRW was needed to stay under GVWR. Could have gone back to a SRW 3500 with the 2018. But it's not my daily driver so why go back. And if there is a bigger 5'ver in the future, then no worries about the truck
