Your tow rig

I have a 2500 06 Dodge Mega Cab with the Cummins in it. Dodge says it can tow 13k but on the cummins forum people say this is a joke and it can tow a lot more. A few people have said they tow 30k on a regular basis. Im going to be towing a 07 Jayco Jay Flight that won't weigh more than 9500 loaded while pulling my rzr and a trailer that will be another 2000. That puts me under 12k which is almost at its max weight. Does this seem reasonable or should I consider airbags or something similar?
  • The problem with the Mega Cab is its ridiculously low payload capacity/gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). If you're one who feels the need to stick within all of a truck's ratings - you're going to find that truck hard pressed to tow a lot of things. :(
  • Its just this year alone that a vehicle has come out rated to tow 30K. That is the 2013 Ram 3500. Suspect this is a regular cab gas motor.

Folks on the Cummins forum are pulling your leg, but not pulling 30K.
  • IMO, the tire and axle ratings are more important than what Dodge rate the truck for. I would be very comfortable towing what you are considering with your truck.
  • The Cummins may be capable, but the truck is a different story. My advice is to stick with what Dodge tells you as opposed to what you read on the Cummins forum.
