I did SAR as a volunteer for 12 years in Lane County (Oregon).Also; Ski Patrol in the backcountry for 15 years more at Crater Lake.
In most states the county sheriff is responsible for SAR.
You are very lucky to have the USMC doing SAR. They have a bigger wallet for the expensive toys to assist them in finding and rescuing lost personal.
