I never thought too much about it until the unit across the way suffered a power socket failure on the resort side and he had to eat a $1000 comp deductible. I now have a Progressive Industries Model SSP-50 between the power and my TT. Cheap insurance I believe.

I do not plug in without one.....I like the portable ones that can be moved and used with other things....mine has volt/amp being used readout so can monitor each appliance and know what it uses and it also has auto restart after low or high volts have occurred....that way if raining or cold you don t have to go out to plug to reset....good luck

If you camp in RV parks with 30 amp service, and need to run the A/C, then a voltage booster is normally needed in the middle of summer. However if you will be in 50 amp parks, then the wiring for 50 amp parks is much larger, and normally not subject to as much voltage loss, so they seem to not need the voltage booster.

I also have a volt meter plugged in all the time in my kitchen. It is designed to stay plugged into a receptacle, and has a 1" tall LED readout, so I can see at a glance if the voltage has dropped below 108 volts, and will check it more frequently. At 108 volts, I plug in my voltage booster. Without one, still at 105 volts your A/C will be OK, but not 104 volts. That is 6 volts less than the 'nominal' 110 volts that the motor is designed to work with, and not within 10% of the nominal 115 volts (+/- 11.5 volts)

So 125 volts, and the motors will be really happy, and draw less amperage. However at 125 volts, the heating elements, such as used in the refrigerator can draw to much amperage, and produce to much heat, so you should change to gas if over 120 volts.

There are 'surge guards' and then there are 'power protection' devices

Surge Guards.........
Inexpensive, will check for power and trip on 'surge' can check power pedestal for reverse polarity, open neutral and open ground

Power Protection....
More expensive, will check for power, trip on 'surge' and also check reverse polarity, open neutral, open ground, high & low voltage trips, timed delay for A/C compressor, AC Frequency

Very hand device when you use multiple CGs or frequenting the same one over and over..

BUT if you are parking rig st a cg I would not be real concerned.
Check the power pedestal with a volt meter and plug in.
Leave power cord plugged in....just open/close pedestal breaker when you leave/come back

Yes, get the best one you can afford. The peace of mind is worth it.

We've got a $500+ one for the Class A and bought a $100 (appx) one for the truck camper.

Chances are you'll never need one. But the ONE TIME that you do.... and don't... you'll be kicking yourself.

Lots of Rver's don't have them and have never had problems. But it's like insurance, you may benefit from it one day or you may never need it. Your call and your dollars! I myself have one because I know how campgrounds have issues with power pedestals and high,low voltage and spikes. Just a reassurance for me to maybe save my TV's,microwave, and a/c's.
