I’m retired military and frequently stay at military campgrounds. There are many retired military personnel that are doing what you are considering and are generally quite happy with their lives. However, in my case we bought a home soon after retirement on a fifteen year finance plan. That was in 1980 and fully paid in 1995. Today, the house value is four times the purchase price and provides a great peace of mind knowing we have a permanent home to go to in case of sickness or my death. We purchased a nice fifth wheel and tow vehicle and became snowbirds. We always look forward to the fall, when we pack-up and head south spending the majority of our stay in military campgrounds. But, we also enjoy coming home in the spring to our own home. I am thankful every day for the decisions we made that allows us to live this live style.
