You mention $5000 as family deductible. A LOT of the ACA plans, are around $12,000 deductible for a family! Add to that the $5-8,000 premium, and you are up in the $17-20,000 range of cost, BEFORE any insurance.
Today they are saying if the drug you take is not an approved one, they will not cover it, and you have to pay 100%. And, that expense is NOT applied to the deductible! WOW!
We are getting screwed! Again, and again, and again.
Yes the huge deductible is a show stopper if you do not have thousands of dollars to pay it. If we did not insure we could spend about $20K before there would be any NET cost per year for our medical care.
It is MAJOR MAJOR only medical coverage with major premiums.
We have been told by BCBS we can expect 68% preium increase when we next renew. We have lost ground and at 62 that is not funny at all.
New math has arrived in the world of health insurance. Well if we get less medical attention we may not live as long which will help lighten the sinking ship I guess. My FIL lived to be 93. When he got cancer and was talking about treatment with the doctor the doctor asked him if he planned to live forever. Ticked off the wife needless to say. We can read about limited medical care in the UK papers.
