It's the research that brings out the facts and the fact is this thing is bad for everyone!
Ummm, no.
We waited two extra years for retirement just because of ACA. We didn't know the prices of the plans, but before the ACA, I wouldn't have been able to get insurance on the open market due to pre-existing conditions.
So, October 1 rol1s around and we look at the plans available. One option we had to to keep our current insurance through COBRA. The plan is an HMO and for the two of us, runs $1440 per month. We looked through the exchange plans and, after reading and researching a lot, we were able to get a multi-state PPO plan for $558 per month ($1500 deductible and $5500 max out of pocket per person). This price is without any subsidies. The $10500 we save every year will almost cover all of our out of pocket expenses if we need it to. The multi-state plan gives us a national network rather than the local network we currently have. The PPO option means we do not have to have referrals from a Primary Care Provider.
We are 'middle aged.' The ACA has allowed us to be able to retire without fear of losing medical coverage. Without the ACA, I would have had to work until I was 65 - medicare age; working an additional 20 years just to have medical insurance is ridiculous. It shouldn't be that hard.
"People" claim you will lose your doctor - mine is on my new plan.
"People" claim your network will be limited - my network grew exponentially.
"People" claim you will pay a lot more - my costs went down significantly.
"People" claim you will be paying for benefits you don't need - I have been doing that for years.
