Does everyone who uses the Alternative Resource address at 3700 Westport Ave. in Sioux Falls, realize that you will have to makea trip to SD to change your Drivers lic to reflect their new address?Your drivers lic needs to match your checks address. This can't bedone through the mail. Any suggestions out there to avoid this ?

This is what I got yesterday from Dakota Post aka Alternative Resources:Do I have to update my Driver’s License right away?a. No, you do not need to update your Driver’s License immediately. However, when you do renew,the same rules apply:i. Proof of Address - one document, no more than one year old, proving your personal mailbox(PMB) service address (receipt from DakotaPost or piece of mail with new address on it).ii. Overnight Stay Receipt - no more than one year old, at a hotel or campground in SD.iii. Residency Affidavit – needs to be filled out, signed, and notarizedhttp://dps.sd.gov/licensing/driver_licensing/documents/PMBFormresidencyaffidavit11-06-2013_000.pdf*The DMV has been notified and aware that our clients will be updating their address when they renew.I don't know that checks are a problem. Often times when presenting a check, one would be asked, "Is this the correct address?" If not, they write it on the check. Dale

We have used checks that had a different address than our legal address a number of times. Mainly when we mail in a payment or such. We don't use our checks for everyday purchases if we can help it.Scottiemom post is the same as we received from Dakota Post via email. No need to make a special trip to renew until your 5 year renewal is up. Nice to see a post that addresses the question rather than a flip and useless reply. JMHO

We're up for D.L. renewal next year. We plan to be there mid-late June, I'll need an extension from April, scottiemom will be OK for her July birthday.

Got the same stuff, no big deal about the checks as we hardly ever write one anymore.

Alternative Resources just doesn't get it. They are telling everyone that they don't need to change their drivers license till it comes due. Fulltimers are always out of state. going to a bank is different for us then someone who always uses their local bank where they are known. Should have stayed with Escapees mail service. They understand the fulltimers. We will make a special trip to SD next year to change our lic & find a new mail service.

Checks are the least of it. Insurance, bank accounts, etc. You will have to notify all of them.

Guess it was my lucky day. They randomly take people out of the line & check them more. Took about 30 extra minutes

Many times we need to deal with a live person rather than the ATM. I never use a credit card @ restaurants. Recently crossed into Algodonas & on going through customs, I was picked out & sent to

maybe I'm over concerned. It just seems when you have made the choice to become SD residents & your legal address has now changed, you only have one legal form to prove your address & it is wrong, problems can happen. Your drivers lic is all you have when on the road. We seldom write checks either but when going to a bank of America, the drive up teller will always want to see your drivers lic when making a withdrawl. Once you notify everyone of your new address, get new checks printed, they won't match.
