This is what I got yesterday from Dakota Post aka Alternative Resources:
Do I have to update my Driver’s License right away?
a. No, you do not need to update your Driver’s License immediately. However, when you do renew,
the same rules apply:
i. Proof of Address - one document, no more than one year old, proving your personal mailbox
(PMB) service address (receipt from DakotaPost or piece of mail with new address on it).
ii. Overnight Stay Receipt - no more than one year old, at a hotel or campground in SD.
iii. Residency Affidavit – needs to be filled out, signed, and notarized

*The DMV has been notified and aware that our clients will be updating their address when they renew.
I don't know that checks are a problem. Often times when presenting a check, one would be asked, "Is this the correct address?" If not, they write it on the check.
