Any full timers off the road?

I'm curious to see if there are any full timers off the road and still living in their rv full time. Pf so, how long and how has it been?

Although I don't consider myself "off the road" since I still do frequent RV trips year round, but I'm no longer fulltime.
After 4 yrs of fulltime RV travels, I started to slow down and stay longer in a few favorite seasonal spots. I quickly realized I didn't enjoy extended stays in RV parks, so I bought some land in 3 of my favorite seasonal areas. For the next 2 yrs I lived in my RV on those parcels of land, rotating from one area to the other as the seasons changed. Eventually I built homes on all 3 and no longer live in my RV fulltime, but still use it frequently for shorter trips, using my places as seasonal homebases.
  • I think full timing has many forms. We wintered in Arizona started in 2008-09. Recently we bought a larger trailer, and then DW sold the house to a lady in the next chair at a beauty salon, so we are now full timing in the 5th wheel. We have a sunbird site in Washington state that we bought in 2008. That will be our summer residence. We are off to Arizona in October and may buy a park model in our park there as a winter residence, using the 5th wheel to take side trips once in a while in the SW.

  • Unless you have family to visit as a destination thru out the year as many RV'ers do.

If you don't have family, After a few years on the road seeing all the the things on your bucket list, it gets old. Over the years you end up finding a favorite winter spot and a favorite summer spot and just bounce back and forth with extended stays.

I just happened to score a real nice house in Florida on acreage during the real estate crash! I will be making that my winter home, the MH parked right outside to jump into and get outta dodge to head North to avoid having to endure the hot sweltering summers here!

So ya still full timing only I now have a 2 ac campground site for the winter. :W

I want to ask a question, and please do not think I am being rude, rather curious. Why when you decided to get off the road did you choose to stay in your Rv, as opposed to a condo, apartment, house, manufactured home, etc?

I didn't reply, but, since our trailer is paid for and any of the places you mentioned require money, and the only housing expense we have is lot rent, no contest.

  • Off the road, Parked at my Son's mini-farm with FH. TT is 32 foot with 2 large sides. About the size of a small apartment. Why not stay in the TT?

My intention was to only stay parked for a few months (while I performed a few tasks that could not be performed on the road), but has been a few years.

May be back on the road in 2018.

  • Thank you for your reply. We were at the Rockport Oaks RV Park for 4 months back in early 2012. Very nice park. They had a lot of plans for expansion back then. We just settled into a park outside of Melbourne, FL.
  • We are 2 years off and living in the place we wintered for four years, Rockport, TX. We live full time in our RV on the coast. We have added a large wooden patio surrounded by tropical plants. DH now has a part time job and relax, play, volunteer, and work just a little.
