That condemnation probably isn't totally fair.
As someone else mentioned, there Federal laws which must be followed for large sums of money.
Doing what you did with **ANY** institution where you did not have a previous relationship probably would have ended up with a similar mess.
I recently sold some farm land. The proceeds were 7 figures (before the tax man came) and there was much less hassle going through a financial company that I had a previous record with. Not none but a lot less.
