Army Corp of Engineer (ACOE) parks are great places to stay. If you have a "Senior Pass" the rates are as low as $12.00 per night. If you don't have a pass, I recommend that you get one.

Be sure to get a Senior pass at any Federal facility. It will get you 1/2 off basic site prices at any National Park, National Forest, or COE campground.

I have listed some of my favorite dry camping places on BLM land or Forest service land.

The Escapees campground in Coarsegold CA is really nice, and close to Yosemite. The one in Washington is also wonderful!

Quartzsite is a great place to spend a few weeks dry camping in teh winter, North Rim of the Grand Canyon a great place to spend some time in the summer.

Near Yellowstone, there are places to dry camp for free, outside of the park.

When I was full time for 2 years, I carried some 7.5 gallon blue water jugs, and refilled them while out sightseeing. I could use my ladder rack and bike tie down strap to hang the container near my fresh water filler, and refill my 100 gallon fresh water tank. This way I could spend 3 weeks in one location, and then move on to dump the tanks and refill with fresh water while in a private campground every 2-3 weeks.

To conserve water, you could do the dishes in a dishpan, then toss it out on the grass, or save a gallon in a old milk container to use as flush water. I have a 59 gallon black tank and only 42 grey.

Have fun traveling! And be careful not to take it all in at once. You have time to spend and you can take in one area of the country each year, not criss cross it all the time, so you put less miles on the SUV, and wear on the trailer.
