Canadian Full Timers and Insurance

Hi,
My husband and I are about to take to the road full time (for at least a year and maybe longer.)
We are having trouble finding insurance for out of province travel as we can only be out of Alberta for maximum 212 days out of 365.
Does anyone have suggestions about how to travel through BC and Yukon and then snowbird to Arizona while maintaining provincial health coverage?
Any recommendations for companies who provide out of province insurance coverage for 60 year old and 59 year old? (at a reasonable price).
Thanks in advance.
  • Hi,

I have a Global Payment (master card) from the Connexus Credit Union that gives me 30 days of health coverage for USA. It can be extended by paying a fee to the company. They offer coverage up to age 75.
  • Consider yourself fortunate as here in Saskatchewan we can only be gone for six months. Now this is a province that typically has seven months of snow and cold so even if you plan carefully you could still be travelling in winter conditions. I understand you can apply and be granted an extension or do like many people do and leave your rig and fly home returning later to pick it up (Just remember to leave yourself enough days to do this as it's combined days out of province).
  • I really don't have much to suggest other than the obvious such as AMA Travel and Blue Cross. I will be watching closely though as we are contemplating doing the same in the next couple of years and are trying to gain as much info as possible. Congratulations on the move and all the best of luck. The Yukon is absolutely breathtaking by the way. The restaurants in Whitehorse are amazing and the history unforgettable. Take the White Pass train ride if you get the chance. It's unbelievable.
