Florida native here; grew up in Clay county, currently reside in Santa Rosa (Navarre). Sales tax here is 6.5%, and beaches are beautiful. Being retired military, FL also offers several military facilites, plus no income tax. We're not perfect, but nothing beats 10 months average moderate weather. Depending on county, we are (usually) much lower on gas than the national average.
We have the largest collection of oldest living things on planet earth (especially southern counties) and health care should be a non-issue.
Finally, you're no more than 60 miles from any beach, the gulf coast is beautiful, and there is always something to do or see. I don't see how you can go wrong.
