We use two credit cards. One is for all our AutoPays. We don't use it for anything else. The other (Chase - used for 30+ years) is used for all stores, restaurants, fuel, online buying, etc. If the Chase card is compromised it's no big deal to get a new card and I don't have to set up the AutoPays again. It works very well.
Traveling constantly for 16 years we have had Chase call asking about a strange purchase. They asked that I call them back and discuss it. I called and then I had to give them 'security' answers before they would talk to me about my account. This is a safeguard and I appreciate it. If you call a bank and they don't ask for security answers then it's not a bank I would deal with. Card #'s can be lifted very easy when using them in public stores.
Banks can easily latch onto your spending habits. If something doesn't jive that sets up a flag. They understood us as full-timer RVers and had that in their records. Whenever we would move into another state we called them to let them know. When we planned to make a large purchase, such as a new laptop, we called them before the purchase so there was no problem at the register. They always said it was appreciated. To us, it's no big deal to spend a few minutes doing this.
Go into your account and check over your 'Account Preferences', There's a place to check if you want text communications. We definitely do not. We want them to call and then we'll call them back before discussing anything about our account. When we've answered their security questions only then will we discuss our account.
