Choosing a dentist on the road

I may need to go to the dentist as I am starting to have some dental discomfort which makes me think I either have some kind of infection or may need a root canal. My question to you is; how do you choose a dentist on the road? Sure, I can check out their websites and make sure they are of good quality, read their bios and their customer reviews...but I am wondering if there are certain website review sites or other information you use to qualify a dentist or doctor before choosing. Thanks!
  • Ive been brushing my teeth using salt and also flossing twice a day and havent had any problems in over 5 years..
you may want to try that also.
  • The one time I had an emergency that couldn't wait I went to the nearest dental college. Treatment was first class and reasonable. Just have to be comfortable with a lot, and I mean a lot, of strangers looking into your mouth.
  • DW and I schedule a trip to Yuma once a year. We go across the border to Algodones for all our dental work. Dr. Carlos Rubio is who we use but there are many very qualified dentists in Algodones. It is a Mecca for Canadians and US citizens alike for high quality and extremely inexpensive dental work. We have both had root canals, crowns, routine cleaning, and DW has had 6 implants done there all with great success and at less than 1/3 the price of US dentists. Crown for $250, cleaning for $30 ... hard to beat those prices. A bonus is that in Yuma you can get your motor home or any RV hand washed and waxed for about $100. There are RV specialists everywhere so you can get virtually any work done that you might need, all at very reasonable prices. For us, the trip to Yuma is an annual thing.
  • AS Biscuit mentioned, ask around.....do a small survey of people you meet in the area....CG staff, People in stores or at the gas station. Depending on the size of the community, you may find the same name mentioned (with a good review) several times.
Then, you can check the websites, and call around.

I've had several dental emergencies while working on the boat....and would just try and locate the closest Dentist....maybe I was lucky, but I never had a problem with any of them. Most of them would be out of business, if they were unethical or caused problems for patients.

    Good luck
  • When I have needed a dentist I asked the CG office staff..."Who do you use?"

Both times the dentist did a good job and got me right in.
