We have only been full time for a couple of years and have only visited about half the U.S. We have a 5th wheel and a 2012 diesel F350. Here how it is breaking down for us so far.
3 or 4 months in a Illinois CG averages $325 per month. Our 5 months during the winter in upscale RV resort in Florida is a lot more expensive. We have averaged about $30 a night while on the road traveling. So in other words, due to our winter expenses in Florida our average lot rent is around $800 a month.
When traveling we are never in a hurry and try to keep our fuel usage down. My F350 generally averages around 11 - 13mpg pulling the 39' fiver. We prefer to stay in one place for 2 or 3 days at a time. We have spent $1,500 in one month for fuel and we have spent less than $100. Our average though is just over $350 a month.
For us the food expenses stayed about the same. We do enjoy eating out and probably do so 3 or 4 times a week. Full timers RV insurance wasn't that expensive and our health care plan did not change.
For us, our savings account has easily grown since going full time. When we had our house we averaged around $800.00 or more a months for taxes, utilities, and insurance.
Based on our experience, you could easily do it on less than $5,000 a month as long as you are pretty much debt free.
