Yes, $50,000 will be plenty. Think about downsizing your RV a little. A 40 footer will fit in many parks but it'll be easier with 35' or less, especially with amount of traveling that you're planning on doing. Most US national parks do not have electrical hookups so solar panels are a good idea.
This is true. I am agonizing between a 34ft and 40ft models. The models I'm looking at are Newmar Ventana and Tiffin Phaeton, ranging from 34ft to 43ft. That 34ft looks so tempting but at the same time, I'm seeing posts that claim they had no issue staying at national parks with their 43ft DPs as long as they are reserved well in advance. Still trying to figure out which is true...
As for the solar, yes I do plan to go solar, probably 400w or more. I didn't realize most national parks have no electricity - I would have expected that most would have at least _some_ powered sites...
Google Earth and campground maps are your friends. Nothing wrong with emailing or telephoning specific campgrounds as well.
As for your budget sounds reasonable to me as well. I don't like flying by the seat of my pants.
Have fun whatever choices you make:).
