Really, really don't think it is the RV nor the pocket book which is the defining factor of when to get off the road. In our case we are looking at less than 5 years in which we can continue. Have already looked at our options, RV park, apartments, etc.
But at the same time we want to go to a warmer climate for winters. So may only move twice a year .. so in my way of thinking there are varying ways to discontinue full-time rv living, IF your definition is always traveling from one place to another.
And from my reading here on RV.Net this is an option which many are doing. As to what would get us out of an RV altogether would be our health. And since me (wife) does not have a driver's license due to eye problems that would be another factor - should hubby die first, then would go into an apartment or an rv park near to our children.
So as to "what" would "define" leaving the full-time rv'ng it is rather a complicated question to answer for many of us.
