For all the fulltimers who work on the road.

I have a question for all the full time RVers who work on the road. What kind of jobs do you do? I have met some who do web design and others who are photographers. As I read more about the RV experience I would eventually like to move out of a 9-5 office setting and in to traveling. What advice do you have for someone who wants to Travel and work on the road?

Thanks,
Ruben
  • We're not quite debt-free, but pretty close. DH is a traveling construction superintendent. He talked to his employer and asked about giving us per diem instead of paying for a Corp Apt/Extended Stay when he was out-of-town. They okayed it.

But then he switched employers to someone that would send us traveling more. 8 years later, we're getting closer to retirement.
  • Thanks for all the replies, I'll keep looking in to it so I can one day travel on the road.
  • We work on the road, we are Debt Free and I do field training, customer support and product R&D for the company I work for.
  • I fulltime and work on the road at the same job all the time. I work in IT and only need Internet and phone to do my job. My biggest issue so far is that I find I never leave the RV. I have a dedicated office in my unit for working.

    Oh and I have debt!
  • Find a job that you can do on the road and would want to do on the road. Start your own business while you're still stationary and build up your customer base. Then hit the road. Be sure you have the technology to communicate/help them (fax, remote control software, FTP servers, etc.)
  • Thanks for the reply. I do Tech Support so a lot of times I am on the phone. I have asked in my current job to see if they would consider me continuing this job on the road and as an added bonus I could visit our customers when I am in their city. So far its a no go.
  • Be debt free
    Have a skill that is portable......nurse/machinist/web based/sales
Do workcamping.....work at campgrounds/parks for free site...some pay a nominal wage
    Amazon regional sites

Is your line of work transportable?
