We prepared the house for sale and got rid of some of our furniture so the house did not look so full. Once the house had a contract on it we went to work getting rid of everything. We sold and gave away a lot and the few things we kept we moved into a storage unit. We only kept a few things til the last minute such as a bed and one TV etc. We wrote in the contract that possession is 3 days after escrow closes, so that's how long we had to get rid of the final things.
We already had an RV, but I would advise you to do all your research before you buy something. Once you have sold the house the worst case would be to rent a small furnished apartment for a little while. Don't rush your purchase.
