Agreed, this is probably the biggest difference.
Of course the correlary to the more fuel efficent toad is the more fuel efficent towing of a 5th wheel (we hear reports of 9-11mpg 5W and 5-8mpg MH). We did some calculations early on and unless you are stationary for a few months at a time and do quite a bit of driving, the mpg of a small car really doesn't save you much.
Now if you hate driving a pickup, that might sway your choice.
Oddly, we've seen a fair number of MH's pulling 3/4 ton pickups with golf carts in the back of the pickup. Seems like that would be the worst of both worlds but if they are happy, more power to 'em.
