FL, TX and parts of VA and NC would be very do-able, imho.
We lived in south Jersey for four years about halfway between McGuire AB and Philly in a log cabin with just a woodburning stove for heat for most of that time.
It wasn't completely horrible in the winters. Pittsburgh would be worse.
