@BarbaraOK: We haven't totally ruled out a motorhome, but we will want a car too, and well... having two engines to worry about (and all of the other complexities that come with a motorhome) feels a bit daunting to me.
Otherwise put, it just seems simpler to "drive the car we're doing to drive" as it were.
It's not to say we'd never try it, but I'd probably want to work my way up to it after starting with a towable.
