We plan on FTing in a TT in a few years. We chose a TT for 2 reasons:
1. My DW has a bad knee and has difficulty with stairs.
2. We will be taking a pair of motorbikes with us and carry them in the back of our truck. We will also be carrying a generator, spare gas, etc. in the back of our F-250 supercab LB 6.4 diesel (with a custom built, aerodynamic tall bed topper, which will also deflect the wind around the TT for better MPG and less wind buffeting.
I haven't seen a fiver yet (other than a toy hauler) that has a big enough storage area for a couple of motorbikes. We wish to avoid a Toy Hauler (either TT or a FW) as we don't want gas fumes, spills, oil leaks, dirt off the bikes, etc. in our home. Plus most fivers require a dually (because of the higher pin weight), and have a large frontal area (meaning more drag) something we can avoid with our less expensive, higher MPG 3/4 ton and less expensive, lighter weight TT. Though MPG may not be very important for someone who only tows a few thousand miles a year, for a Fulltimer towing 12-15K+ miles/year the difference can mean many thousands of dollars over the lifetime of the rig - important when FTing on limited resources. As a side benefit the cheaper, lighter weight rig will be cheaper to register and insure, year after year too.
