We sold the house and everything in it, especially the snow shovel. We had no intention of living in Michigan permanently. Also, a big house and big yard is not what retired folks need.
We had no idea how long we'd full-time and the 16 years went by fast. :)
We just invested the money from the sale of the house and have now bought in an area we would have never dreamed of living. It is maintenance-free, including the small yard, and came fully furnished in top-notch decor that matches the Southwest area. It's in a 55+ very active community and most of the homes are sold furnished. From here folks go to a nursing home, live with the kids or pass on. The kids never want to deal with the furniture.
