I too will sell my house when I start receiving retirement checks instead of paychecks in a few years. I do not want to pay $2500 a year in taxes and $1200 a year in insurance for a place that I might never see. If circumstances were to require a temporary sticks and bricks like after a major surgery or something like that, we will just rent a furnished apartment wherever we happen to be until we are ready to hit the road again.
We are also a couple who has spent the last 35 years in one town and ready to see something else. Kids are gone, friends have moved away, and I can tell you that i am a born wanderer and not a "roots" kind of person anyway.
Good luck with your decision.
