Home Base

Just kinda wondering, since we plan to begin traveling a bit more in the future when retirement kicks in: Do any of you full timers hang on to a S&B home base even though you travel most of the time?

  • We aren't 100% full time but about 80%. We have a S&B to keep our "stuff" in. Good thing is our house has no mortgage on it
  • We sold our house, but kept our small vacation cottage in upstate NY. We've upgraded the cottage from summer to year round use, and added a full hookup RV site along side it. Most of the time when we stay at the cottage while visiting our kids that live nearby and catching up on doctor's appointments and such, we just continue to live in the coach. Our total annual cost for the cottage only amounts to a couple of thousand dollars, and it gives us the peace of mind of having a ready made "exit plan" when the time comes for that.
  • We're only just now in the process of transitioning to full-time, but are selling the house. We aren't in a position to afford full-timing AND the cost of maintaining a home with a mortgage. There are many good discussions on this topic over on RV-Dreams and Escapees. Check 'em out.
