How big is big enough?

I am considering going full time.

For one person, what is the minimum travel trailer length you would be comfortable in?....

Due to size constraints in National Forest campgrounds out west, 30' overall seems to be a good size.

I am honed in on a Heartland North Trail 26LRSS model.

Any input is welcome
Thank you
  • I am comfortable in a 40' DP with a Jeep to carry my yacht, two bicycles, and fishing gear.

I suspect I could be comfortable in a 20' trailer PROVIDING it has a comfy and roomy toilet (my reading room), a big enough shower for me to spread out a bit, one very comfortable chair, space to carry all my toys/junk, enough capacity to carry plenty of food and water for two week stints, and enough roof space to install plenty of solar panels.

My cat is not giving me an intelligent answer to the question so I'm not exactly sure what he thinks.

Tell me what YOU would be comfortable in...??

Keep in mind it's just me....no bride, no sig other, no pets.

    And thanks

When I was full timing (and may again soon) I my self am content in my T.C. Its all really need. I do have a 29 FT 5th though for me and the Kids. I don't full time in that though.
  • If something happened to my wife, I could comfortably continue on RV'ing in our 34' Class A, but a future downsize to 28-30' model would be doable also, depending on the floorplan.

    Absolutely!
Having the dinette as the only seat solution is a NO go.

This why I like the rear living plan on that North Trail I linked to......not only TWO recliners in the rear but TWO more (theatre seating) integrated into the dinette slide out.

If you are like most people it is 3-4 feet longer than whatever size you buy.

  • Yeah, I agree with Chuck. What I am comfortable in doesn't matter much to you.

It's all a compromise. Sometimes I wish I had a truck camper on a 4x4, other times my current 40' DP is not enough.
  • I had a 26' travel trailer with a great floorplan. Before my husband passed away, we seemed to stay in the 30-31' range with either a motor home or a fifthwheel.
Had a 27' class C, and even with one slide, it was tight. Just depends on what you can live in, together....

  • The bigger question is what are you comfortable in? Some people can live in a 20' trailer. Others need a park model.
