I'm Planning to go full time. How do I go about establishing a home base. My final destination one day will probably be Idaho. So I would like that to be my home base.

Most full timers use 1 of these 3 states, S.D, Tx, Fl. reasons being, taxes, existing mail forwarding services, vehicle licensing/inspection requirements.

Think you are confusing terms. A home base would be a place where you return from time to time. Maybe a home rv park that you particularly like to escape winter cold. Perhaps a place where lots of friends and relatives are and where you maybe store your extra goodies in a storage locker etc. It may or may not have anything to do with your domicile.Domicile is a place which you claim as "home". You may go there from time to time or you may never go there. It is the address that you use for obtaining your drivers license and vehicle plates. It is the address that you give to your ins. company. It is the address you use for voting etc. For many full timers, it will be a mail drop box and some favorite states are SD, TX, FL and some others. These states impose no state income tax. The authorities accept a comm'l mail box # and address for D/L purposes and do not impose difficult restrictions on declaring their state as "home" or "domicile state". So one could be a resident of (domicile in), say, SD, setting foot in SD once to get their D/L (you can do your plates and everything else by mail) while considering Aunt Tillie's house in some other state, or a Florida RV park as home base.The point being, you can pick your domicile wherever it please you and wherever the services are easily available without regard to where you might eventually like to permanently put down your new roots. In other words, your wish to eventually settle in ID has nothing to do with the state you now pick as you full timer domicile state. There's a pretty good reason why some states are not favorites for full timers. Why make it hard on yourself?
