When I was in the Navy, there were times when we needed the steam to run the propulsion system and other critical equipment and the 'snipes' only made five hundred gallons of FW per day.
During "water hours" we (185 of us) were each issued two gallons of water per day with which we did our laundry and took a bath.
The Scullery crew could do all of the dishes and gunboats with only 20 gallons of water per meal.
Toilets were always flushed and weather decks were swabbed with sea water so that was never a problem.

Some of you have been talking about going only a few days on a huge amount of water. I haven't dumped my black tank since December and my grey water goes into a five gallon bucket which is dumped about once every four or five days.
My fresh water usage is about 1.5 gallons per day.
