You seem to be a bit confused. A convection/microwave is not a microwave. This is a full blown convection oven that works like an oven, cooks like an oven and produces results like an oven (only better since convection cooking is generally better than non-convection cooking). If you can do it in an oven you can do it in an oven. That's what a convection oven is. It's just smaller and works better.
If you need to cook 37 different things at the same time you should use one of those, IMHO, crappy RV ovens as there is not enough room in the convection oven. However, if you plan properly you can cook a great dinner in the convection oven including a full blown Thanksgiving dinner as my wife and I have for the last many years. Whole turkey (around 9#), stuffing, AppleMallowYamYums (the bomb!) crescent rolls and then we stick the pie in there so it's ready for dessert. What more do you want? - BoonHaulerExplorer

More words of wisdom.....:W
I use the oven a lot! - littlemoExplorerIf you use your oven at home, you will need in RV. I would let microwave or many things go before oven. But then, I cook in oven. If you don't use it at home you won't use in RV. In other words it depends on how you cook.

I guess for a lot of us it comes down to how you actually use your RV. We prefer to camp, having AC is not a need, merely an occasional luxury. Many others just have to have AC 24/7 and they seem to be the folks that prefer the convection ovens vs gas along with the toaster ovens, crock pots etc. Not having a gas oven pretty much leaves you hanging any time AC is not available and we like to keep our options open. Like the man said different strokes.
Probably because we were boaters for 35 years but I just cannot imagine having to plug in or fire up a genny just to cook something including that pot of coffee first thing every morning. Getting back to the title of this thread "essential" obviously means different things to different folks. For me "essential" is the ability to prepare healthy, delicious meals without disrupting the peace and quiet of a nice CG.
As always.... Opinions and YMMV.

Well said and thank you for bringing the point forward.
For those of us that boondock for extended periods I'd have to think would make use of their oven.
No need to disturb the neighbors for that cup of joe - All I have to do is turn on the inverter. And The microwave runs just fine off it too. - 2oldmanExplorer IIThey're handy for heating plates, and keeping food warm.
- Cuffs054ExplorerI shall spare y'all from my never ending rant about the design of trailer stoves. However has anyone ever used the "toast" function that is a feature of the oven? And how many times have you "broiled" something in the oven? So why does the manufacture continue to put the burner in the middle of the cavity???
- ventrmanExplorerWe use our Oven. For things like a big Turkey. We use the NU wave.
- reubenrayExplorerI will be experimenting on using my Traeger Junior smoker in place of the oven. We have a convection/microwave, but it takes to long to heat up. We are thinking of upgrading our 31SA if we decide to to fulltime. The DW does not know if she wants the oven or the extra space for her pans.
On our next trip I will try out biscuits and cornbread in the Traeger. - nbargolfExplorerFull timing for 2 years and have never used the oven. Convection MW does it all just needed to learn to use it properly.

but in a nice CG you would be able to plug in your microwave/convection oven, etc. without disturbing anybody.
