If you have experience with dental work in Mexico...help me!

I've read on several blogs of people going over the border for dental work, being pleased and saving lots of money. I visited a dentist in East Texas yesterday and he gave me a proposed treatment plan that includes 4 root canal therapies, and 4 porcelain crowns for a cost of $8800. I'm interested in shopping that service, while not cutting the service.
  • Mike,
Who did you go to for all that work at $1,900.00 ?
    Thanks,
    Becky
  • Thank you so much for the incredible information. Do you need a passport to get into Mexico for dental work? Where do you go? What is the timeframe and cost? Thanks.

Check your local post office. Not available at all, but there should be one nearby.

Passport was $90 10 years ago, not sure now. There will be info on the internet. Google is your friend.....

Its easy to cross the border to Progresso without a passport, it's coming back that it is checked. Several people have mentioned that they are able to get back with just a valid DL. They may ask you a few more questions, but you won't be denied re-entry to your country. I'd play dumb.......

Sorry for the delay is answering. I had the work done at the Guadalajara Dental Group in Los Algodones. They do very good work, at least for us, and we would not hesitate to return. We both had to go for some adjustment/fine tuning of some of the denture work which only took a matter of minutes other than the travel there - 2.5hrs each way from where we currently are.

    Cheers!

That is great to know. Thanks for the info. It's ridiculous how much health care is in the U.S. 4 yrs ago we were in Yuma and DH went to a doctor in Los Algodones for his knee, X-rays, dr. appt., medicine for a year under $200. Sidenote: the doctor was very well educated and professional
  • I see Progresso and Nuevo Progresso mentioned. Where are these towns located? Somewhere, someone mentioned mexican dental work near Weslaco, Tex. I can't seem to locate that info. If you have any experience, I would appreciate the info. THANKS!

They are just East of Weslaco about 10 miles.
Edit: I should have said South East of Weslaco.
  • we're going to Dental Betel Yasmin Carvajal in Los Algodones tomorrow. Will let you know tomorrow how it went :)

You need the passport to get back in the US
  • I went to Beaumont, TX (about 20 miles from Sour Lake) today and applied for my passport. Since the book covered ground, air and water and was good for ten years, I opted for it. Hopefully everyone will do their job and within 4-6 weeks I'll have my passport. I've developed a short list of Nuevo Progresso dentists. I let you know of my decision. THANKS so much for all of the help!
