Since your son is already being home schooled that shouldn't have to be an adjustment.
Start going to RV shows and looking on the RV sales lots. Look at all kinds of RVs and see what works for you. Take your son with you so he can have input and feel like he's helping decide. If he's never been in an RV just doing this for a while may change his mind. RVs are very "livable". You could start out living in a park near your parents and then start short trips until you get the hang of it.
