Moving Day..........Mostly

I was ready to full time until we hit our death beds. But DH kept dreaming about his next home and woodshop he could set up in retirement.

Finally, a few months ago, I think he came to the realization, that we'll never want/need another house again. Our retirement is less than 5 years away and we just ordered our new 'retirement home' earlier this month. We already bought a lot near our children's home. Close, but not too close. LOL

We have 16 grandchildren and we see them often enough even with a demanding work schedule.

Moving day for us. Funny how life changes as time goes on.

We are getting ready for our "fulltime" date. We have been busy cleaning out our 5 bedroom house and large shop. Selling, donating, and giving special items to our children. Stuff is just stuff and doesn't make you happy. We will fulltime for 3-5 years and then "think" about finding something smaller near our 3 children. Still have another year, and getting excited!

The "problem" with fulltiming is that it gets in your blood. A couple of years
becomes 5,then 8 pretty soon you have been on the road for a decade,and have no idea where or when you will be when you finaly decide to settle down.

We are starting our 8th year and starting to "think about,thinking about" how,when and where to exit. (Maybe,at the ten year point.)

We sold/donated/gave away/junked every last thing we owned and hit the road 1.5 years ago. It is just stuff, and stuff that I was tired of anyway. (mostly) We will go as long as health allows (hopefully many, many, many years) and then we will decide what we want to do, but I know we will never own a home again, other than the one we now have on wheels. I have no desire to own a home ~ didn't care much for it when we did, so no desire to go back! Travel and enjoy!!!

You are a little bit ahead of us. We will put our house on the market in just a couple of weeks. anything the buyers don't want will be donated. After going through stuff for the last few weeks, we really don't care to see 99% of it again. The 1% we keep will be going with us or to relatives' houses for storage. As we were getting rid of most of it, we wondered how much money we would have without all this stuff!

We went the no-storage way. We tally up the cost to store everything or sell and buy new down the road. Plus we have nothing to worry about at the storage lot.

That's pretty much what we did. We put everything is storage and headed out on what we thought would be a six month trip to see friends and relatives and look for a place cheaper and warmer than NH to build or buy a house. The house sold a month after we left.
After about a year of wandering all over the west and the south we realized we had yet to start looking - we were having too much fun. So we decided to keep on full timing. That was eleven years ago and we just now became snowbirds.
