This is confusing. Aetna is commenting on hydrocodone which was added to the Schedule II list last fall. My experience is with oxycodone which has been Schedule II for decades. We just filled a 90 day RX last month.
Here is a quote from Consumer Reports: "In addition, refills are not allowed with Schedule II drugs and many states and insurance companies only allow you to get up to a month’s worth on a single prescription. But your doctor can write multiple prescriptions for a total of up to 90 days worth—for example, three 30-day prescriptions—with instructions to the pharmacist to fill them sequentially. If you need to take the drug for longer than three months, though, you’ll need to go back to your doctor for another prescription."
So, I suspect that either Aetna or your state is restricting you to a 30 day supply. Another example of the confusion resulting from the seven bureaucracies involved in this mess. It is important to know where the problems come from in order to find a way through the maze.
It is a real problem for travelers. Many physicians will not prescribe Oxycontin because of the controls on it and out of fear of getting in trouble.
